Principal’s Message (2020)
I am glad to work with a team of dedicated teachers as we all share a very important conviction: that each student is unique and valuable, and that given suitable opportunity and encouragement, every child can shine on the stage. The school year 2019 – 2020 was a tough year as our normal school routine was seriously disturbed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, both our students and teachers strived to do their best to ensure the quality of learning and teaching in our real-time online lessons and face-to-face classes. We still managed to have another fruitful school year with all achievements accomplished by our students and teachers. (For details, please refer to the newly published School Brochure 2020 on our school website).
The annual school goal for the new academic year is “A Critical Mind Makes You Wiser, Resilience Makes You Stronger.” This once again reminds our students to learn to discern and at the same time, to train to have a strong mind and soul in order to uphold what is good and honorable. Here at TSK, we encourage our students not to be satisfied with any answers simply from the Internet, and we stress the importance of being critical so as to seek the truth. It is only with a critical mind that one can make achievements beyond his imagination. With falsehoods spreading widely in our society, it is important for all of us to distinguish truth from lies by considering each and every matter from different perspectives, and at the same time, fact-check every piece of news and message received. As a Christian school, pursuing truth, virtue and beauty is our ultimate goal. We hope our students will be able to act prudently for the betterment of society.
I would like to quote and share with you a prayer by William Temple, the Archbishop of Canterbury:
“O God, the King of righteousness, lead us, we pray you, in the ways of justice and of peace; inspire us to break down all tyranny and oppression, to gain for every man his due reward and from every man his due service; that each may live for all, and all may care each, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.”
We educate our students to change, to develop and become a better person for a better world. This is the virtue that we would like our students to possess. Together with "Perseverance, Forgiveness and Tolerance", which are qualities manifested by our school motto, HYPOMONE, our students will develop as young adults who have clear goals, are well-disciplined with the habit of excellence and care for others.
Sheng Kung Hui Tang Shiu Kin Secondary School, established in the year 1962, was the first school founded by the Sheng Kung Hui Diocese of Hong Kong and Macao, with the aim of providing a balanced education based on Christian love to youngsters, whatever their family background. Through years of endeavors, our school has been recognized as a remarkable school dedicated to academic excellence, the formation of Christian values and the development of the whole person. I am thrilled to be able to be part of this proud tradition: remaining as a subsidized school, serving the whole community despite their family background, providing education for academic excellence and nurturing students with Christian virtues.
