I am glad to work with a team of dedicated teachers as we all share a very important conviction: that each student is unique and valuable, and that given suitable opportunity and encouragement, every child can shine on the stage. The school year 2015 – 2016 proved to be another very fruitful school year to Sheng Kung Hui Tang Shiu Kin Secondary School with all achievements accomplished by our students and teachers. (For details, please refer to our newly published School Brochure 2016 on the School Web).
The annual school goal for the new academic year is “55 Years – Tradition, Self-reliance, Knowledge”. Our school is celebrating the 55th Anniversary this year and we encourage our students to follow in the footsteps of our predecessors so as to become self-reliant people who cherish the process of knowledge seeking.
“Independence” and “self-autonomy” are perhaps rather sensitive words today; however, our school does consider that the values behind these words are very important to our students. Learning to be self-reliant simply means to develop oneself as an independent person with self-autonomy. Contrary to a self-centered person, an independent person makes responsible and well-informed decisions, and more importantly, he is ready to accept the responsibilities of his own decisions. This is the character that we would like our students to possess. Together with "Perseverance, Forgiveness and Tolerance", which are qualities manifested by our school motto, HYPOMONE, our students will develop as young adults who are compassionate and responsible, as well as independent thinkers.
Sheng Kung Hui Tang Shiu Kin Secondary School, established in the year 1962, was the first school founded by the Sheng Kung Hui Diocese of Hong Kong and Macao, with the aim of providing a balanced education based on Christian love to youngsters, whatever their family background. Through 55 years of endeavors, our school has been recognized as a remarkable school dedicated to academic excellence, the formation of Christian values and the development of the whole person. I am thrilled to be able to be part of this proud tradition: remaining as a subsidized school, serving the whole community despite their family background, providing education for academic excellence and nurturing students with Christian virtues.
